Village teas are made from premium quality leaf and are processed by tea connoisseurs in Sri Lanka using a secret patented method. All Universal Village teas are single origin, which means they all come from the same estate, thereby guaranteeing consistency and quality.

The tealeaves are grown with care on small family farms, typically around 1 acre in size. These farmers form SOFA, the Small Organic farmers' Association. SOFA farmers are paid around 65% more than market price for their crops. In addition, for every kg of Universal Village tea purchased, approx. $1 goes to the farmers cooperative to be used on community development (exchange rate variable). The Premium is typically spent on development such as local roads, buildings, medical schemes or assistance with education.
